the Hamburg Amerikanische Packetfahrt Actien Gesellschaft, known as HAPAG or the Hamburg-America Line

The engine freighter Palatia Hapag after completion in 1928

Before WWI, HAPAG had been the largest passenger shipping company in the world. In fact, millions of immigrants had traveled to the U.S. aboard the company’s ships. But the war took a significant toll on its fleet, destroying 178 vessels and severely limiting its shipping capabilities.

They owned the Graf Zeppelin, which mege millionaire Hearst sponsored for an around the world flight and had his ace woman reporter Lady Grace Drummond-Hays ride http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2015/06/gracia-marguerite-lethbridge-british.html  and report from

The publicity paid off for both Hearst and DELAG. While the newspaper boosted its circulation, DELAG would go on to become one of the leaders in air travel for elite business travelers. In the following years, the Graf Zeppelin completed almost 600 flights carrying 34,000 passengers before being decommissioned in 1937.
